Energy Conservation Assistance Program (ECAP)
Specialists work with small business owners and operators to identify and
promote implementation of energy efficient hazardous mitigation measures.
These measures will lower on-going operation costs through reduced energy
consumption and rebuilding recovery costs.
A Four-Fold Purpose
The ECAP has a four-fold purpose. Their first
purpose is to reduce operation costs of individual small businesses, which
will, in turn, generate funds for growth and development. Their second purpose
is to encourage the development of energy-conserving products, energy management
programs, and the use of alternative fuels and renewable resources. Their
third purpose is to reduce per capita energy consumption in Florida. Their
final purpose is to reduce cost associated with disaster recovery.
The ECAP helps small business owners and operators
to conserve energy by delivery of the following core services:
Analysis
ECAP Specialists utilize facility survey techniques
to analyze the following items: leased or owned buildings; past electric
and gas bills; utility rates and demand charges; operating equipment; operation
and assessment of lighting levels; cost/benefit for purchase of energy conserving
equipment.
Consulting
Free one-on-one consulting is provided by ECAP
Specialists to identify suitable energy conservation and disaster mitigation
measures and calculate the cost/benefit of implementing those measures.
The Specialists provide assistance in determining priorities for implementing
conservation measures, securing financing to pay for retrofits, and advice
on maintaining heat, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment. The Specialists
provide advice for use of technically advanced equipment such as: heat recovery,
solar lighting, motion controls, demand limiting controls, timed light sensors,
and compact fluorescent retrofits, and usage of alternative fuels and renewable
energy.
Training
Through workshop presentations and site visits,
the Energy Specialists show small business owners how they can reduce electric
and gas bills, and explain the benefits of using alternative sources of
energy and investing in energy-saving equipment.
Business that can benefit from these services
include: professional offices, manufacturing facilities, restaurants, retail
stores, private schools, day care centers, nursing homes, recreational resorts,
apartment complexes, campground facilities, warehouse storage facilities.
